Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.
— Desmond Tutu
At Participate Learning, we believe you are never too young to do little bits of good, changing the world around you. Random Acts of Kindness Week is an annual event celebrated in February with the goal of encouraging people to perform acts of kindness for others. Individuals, organizations, schools, and communities participate to spread positivity and make a difference. Encourage your students to participate in this week’s event, empowering them to make a positive impact in their school and community.
Here are twenty ideas for how your school and your students can participate!
- Write a note to a classmate or teacher telling them why you appreciate them.
- Thank your custodial staff for keeping your school clean and safe.
- Hold the door for someone behind you.
- Join a classmate who is playing or eating lunch by themself.
- Create a kindness bulletin board in the hallway, and ask students to post their observations of classmates being kind to others.
- Donate books to your local library or to a Little Free Library.
- Start a Kindness Club at your school.
- Offer to help a neighbor with yard work, shoveling snow, or another chore.
- Help a younger student with their homework or tutor them.
- Let someone borrow your favorite book.
- Donate gently used clothing, toys, and books to a local charity organization.
- Start a community garden at your school, allowing anyone to take home fresh produce.
- Give someone a high-five or a hug.
- Call a family member or friend who you don’t see often.
- Make a card for someone who is sick or going through a hard time.
- Write thank-you notes to your cafeteria staff.
