Employee Spotlight: Silvia Scorza

Participate Learning partners with schools and districts to implement global education and language immersion offerings in K-12 schools. We are committed to empowering educators to strengthen student outcomes and promote global leadership skills while preparing students for the global marketplace.

This summer, we welcomed more than 500 teachers from 32 different countries to the United States! Participate Learning Ambassador Teachers unite our world through global learning by providing students with a culturally rich learning environment.

Our admissions team plays an important role in guiding teachers through the application process to become an Ambassador Teacher. Team members review applications, interview candidates, and help teachers prepare for their journey once they are accepted. Read on to learn more about Senior International Admissions Specialist, Silvia Scorza, and what a day in the life looks like for her at Participate Learning!

A Day in the Life

Silvia’s role as a senior international admissions specialist changes with the time of year and corresponding phase of the admissions process, but her main responsibilities involve communicating with and supporting teacher candidates. She usually starts her day by checking her email and responding to any messages from teachers.

A typical day also includes reviewing any documents submitted by teachers for their application, reviewing new applications, and interviewing potential candidates. Silvia also schedules question-and-answer sessions with the Ambassador Teacher applicants she works with, to provide extra support.

Her favorite part of interacting with teachers is “seeing how excited they are when they are achieving their goal to teach in the United States. They bring so many elements to their classrooms and create beautiful culture corners where they highlight main aspects from their countries.” She also loves connecting with Ambassador Teachers on Twitter and “getting a firsthand look at what is going on in the classrooms,” something she wouldn’t otherwise see in her day-to-day role.

During Participate Learning Arrival Orientation season in the summer, Silvia has the opportunity to travel to North Carolina to greet Ambassador Teachers as they start their new adventure. “It is definitely the highlight of my year to get to know them in person and interact with them face to face!”

Looking Towards the Future

Silvia is excited about the new innovations the admissions team is implementing for the teacher application journey. She’s excited to see how this project will make the process more effective for everyone involved.

“Every school year, I am excited to work with more Ambassador Teacher candidates. This year, I worked with 85 teachers! Our company continues expanding, so I am thrilled to work with even more Ambassador Teachers for the next school year.”

Thanks to the hard work of employees like Silvia and the entire admissions team, our staff, and Ambassador Teachers have the support they need to build meaningful relationships with students, partners, and each other.
